We were able to get a small reload of 750s after being sold out for months. the Special Club from Marc Hebrart is always a knock-out example of the category, and the score from Galloni proves that this iteration is one of the best of all time from this Mareuil-sur-Aÿ-based producer. Though it has been on the market for a while already, we still have low pricing, and it is another not-to-miss bottle from Hebrart.
2019 is the new release of the Special Club from Marc Hebrat, and it looks to be another magnificent vintage for this much-loved producer. Marc Hebrart has been a member of the Club Trésors de Champagne or Special Club since 1985 and has continued their presence among the select producers in the club after Marc's son Jean-Paul assumed control. The blend here is 55% pinot and 45% Chardonnay from the villages of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ 1er Cru (65%), Aÿ Grand Cru (25%), Oiry Grand Cru (5%), and Couilly Grand Cru (5%). Richard Juhlin states that Mareuil-Sur-Aÿ should be a Grand Cru village, and when compared to the Champagnes of Ay, they are almost indistinguishable.
The 2019 vintage is shaping up to be a great one, and though the vintage had its challenges cutting yields via sunburn and hail, the remaining fruit was of great quality and was able to retain acidity and freshness, showing Excellent ripeness with good concentration while aromatically expressive and energetic. This vintage plays right into the style of this special club and is a bottle made to be intense, powerful, dense, and concentrated, with superb balance and complexity that seems to like a few years in the bottle before being opened.
We have excellent pricing on the 2019s at no upcharge over the 2018s, making it one of the best buys for Special Club this vintage. Another fantastic release from Hebrart; this is not one to miss, especially at this low pricing.
Antonio Galloni 94 points! "The 2019 Brut Spécial Club 1er Cru (65% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay) is pure and seductive. Ample and creamy in feel, with gorgeous texture, the 2019 is fabulous right out of the gate. Dried pear, citrus peel, spice and crushed rocks open as the 2019 shows off its considerable charms. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged between April and October 2023. (Drink between 2024-2034)"
