2021 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie Les Journaries / Maestria

$79.99
2021 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie Les Journaries / Maestria
The 2021 cru bottlings from Bernard Levet are sensational, and we have a limited amount of the Maestria available. A fantastic example of single-site Cote-Rotie, Levet only has about 3.5 hectares of vines, which is extremely small but with holdings in some revered vineyards throughout Cote-Rotie. There are only three wines made here, but they come from some excellent sites, each previously passed down and dialed in over the generations and currently operated by Bernard's daughter Agnes as she continues the legacy of this tiny Domaine.
Les Journaries comes from a specific parcel planted in 1947 within the La Landonne lieux dit and is sold in Europe under the name Maestria. Since these bottles are coming from Europe, they will use the name Maestria on the label. It is an excellent example of power and elegance with great depth of fruit, floral and mineral complexity, and very fine tannins. 2021 is one of the greatest yet, and we have low pricing today on this rare find, making it one of the top buys for Cote Rotie this vintage.

Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 95-97 Pts Deeply pitched black and blue fruit, floral, musky herb and licorice scents are energized by building mineral and cracked pepper flourishes. Broad and weighty on the palate, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors, along with suggestions of olive paste and espresso. Extremely primary (of course) but highly promising, finishing extremely long and spicy; solid tannins add grip.
