2022 Domaine du Meix-Foulot Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Château de Montaigu

$39.99
2022 Domaine du Meix-Foulot Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Château de Montaigu
It's been a while since we have offered the Clos du Chateau de Montaigu, but the wait is over, and we have excellent pricing here today. One of our favorite premier cru red Burgundy wines year in and year out, this 2022 is a fantastic example of this top buy for the category and one of the best ever made here. Clos du Chateau de Montaigu is a fantastic Monopole vineyard from Meix Foulot and is the domaines most cherished site producing the best wine made here. Just shy of 2 hectares in total, Clos du Chateau de Montaigu has plantings that go back to 1955 that yield tiny berries that help add elegance and some old vine concentration to the wine. This is elegant and polished red Burgundy from low-yielding vines that is closer in style to its northern neighbors in the Cote d'Or than that of the Cote Chalonaise. It's a wine that would fit right in blind with some Cote d'Or premier crus and at pricing lower than some producer's Bourgogne Rouges. This is truly the ultimate best buy for the category in 2022, and we have low pricing today.

Decanter (Charles Curtice MW) 90 points! "This 1.9-hectare monopole of the domaine was first planted in the 1950s. The 2022 vintage has an alluring aroma of pleasantly ripe black cherry fruit with hints of lavender and exotic black tea that continue with particular sucrosity on the palate. The texture is silky, supple, and bright with acidity due to the northeast exposition of the site next to Les Velley. The grapes are given a reasonably warm fermentation and aged for a year in cask (20% new)."
