2022 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet

Paul Pernots Puligny-Montrachet Cru Champs Canet is the best buy of the vintage for this vineyard. Paul Pernot's first vintage here was 2017, so he has now had time to get the vineyard to produce the quality of grapes he strives for, and the vines are 45 years old. The soil here is mainly calcareous clay with gravel and limestone components, and is considered one of the top premier cru vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet. The domaine's approach is classical with hand-harvesting, barrel-fermentation, moderate new oak for premier crus, minimal bâtonnage, light filtration, and bottling on the earlier side. The 2022 vintage delivered generous, finely balanced wines and is a lovely vintage for white Burgundy, pairing beautifully with Clhamps Canet's superb exposition, which keeps the style precise and mineral-driven. We have low pricing on this one today, can compare to Sauzet ($250+) and Ramonet ($350+), it's a heck of a deal, and it's a beautiful late release from Pernot not to miss!

Jasper Morris 92 pts! Mostly Clos de la Jacquelotte but with some more fruit outside the Clos. They used to sell the extra part, but now prefer to keep it. Pale lemon colour, with a pleasing bouquet, not quite the volume of fruit of Garenne on the nose, but more on the palate where fruit rather than flesh drives the wine. Good length, well made.

Burghound 91 pts! A subtle but not invisible touch of wood surrounds a similar array of aromas with the addition of more floral influence. The expansive and rich middle weight flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that possess a caressing mouthfeel that carries over the sneaky long finish where a tart, but not drying, touch of acid tang appears. This isn't what I would call racy but it possesses enough energy to be appealing anyway. (Drink starting 2029)
