2023 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes

$399.99
2023 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes

Decanter (Charles Curtis) 95 pts! Lafon's 2023 Meursault Charmes is an instant classic, with aromas of ripe apple and hazelnut accented with a bit of smoky reduction and buttery depth. The texture is rich yet lively, and the wine lingers persistently on the palate. It is produced from very old vines from 60-95 years old that are located at the southern end of Charmes Dessus, bordered by Perrières and Puligny-Combottes. The youngest vines are declassified, and the grapes are pressed as whole clusters before fermenting and ageing in cask (25% new) over two winters. (Drink between 2030 - 2050)

John Gilman 94+ pts!  The 2023 Meursault “Charmes” had also been racked prior to my visit and was also in beautiful form. The bouquet is bright, complex and classic, delivering a lovely panoply of apple, pear, hazelnut, a hint of coconut, a beautiful foundation of chalky soil, spring flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, racy and full, with a superb core of fruit, excellent transparency down to the soil, precise focus and balance and a long, complex and vibrant finish. This is going to be so easy to drink! (Drink between 2028 - 2055)
