These are the last bottles we have of this excellent 2023 Puligny-Montrachet in stock today from Matrot, and it's the best example of the Chalumeaux ever made here. This wine comes from one of Puligny’s highest, stoniest slopes above Blagny, where thin limestone and marl give natural tension and saline drive. Since 2015, Thierry Matrot’s daughters, Adèle and Elsa, have run the domaine, and this vintage shows their precision and dedication. These 35-year-old vines are farmed sustainably, hand-harvested, whole-cluster pressed, fermented with indigenous yeasts, then aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels that are 1 to 5 years old, before a short settling in tank. Only the best lots made the final blend, with anything less sold off, and the result is the finest Chalumeaux Matrot has produced to date. It's a sensational wine that can be approached earlier, but still has the structure to age for over a decade. A great note from Jasper Morris, we have low pricing on a limited number in stock, and it comes highly recommended. We've already sold out once, so don't miss these last bottles!
Jasper Morris 93-96 pts! Mid lemon yellow, riper and sunnier but in a pleasingly floral idiom. I love the balance to this and there is a fine thread of acidity which really sets this apart, and a lovely little citrus tint to the fresh yet ripe apples. Grapes from the young vines caught the sun, did not make the cut and were sold off. What they bottled is marvellous though!
