Domaine Michelot's '23 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières is a beautiful example of why this address continues to be one of the smarter buys in Meursault, delivering excellent wines at pricing just below many of its peers. Domaine Michelot is a sixth-generation estate based in Meursault, totaling 19 hectares of vines in some of the village’s most prestigious vineyards, yet it continues to fly under the radar. Over the years, these wines have been among the best buys in the village, and the 2023s are beautiful examples of what Michelot is capable of producing, with some of the strongest efforts we have seen from the domaine. Genevrières is one of Meursault’s great premier cru sites, combining richness, texture, floral lift, and mineral drive, and Michelot’s classic, pure winemaking lets that character show clearly. The vines are tended sustainably, and very little new oak is used, around 15%, leaving the wine unmarked, transparent, and driven by terroir rather than cellar technique. The 2023 shows honeyed orchard fruit, citrus, almond, floral notes, classic Meursault breadth, and a fresh mineral finish, with the generosity to drink well young and the structure to age beautifully. This is an impressive premier cru Meursault and one of the best buys in the category, with low pricing today and some of the only bottles available in the USA.

Much more interesting in the mouth, with a bench of white fruit and a few stones dotting the finish. Like the Charmes, the persistence is pleasing. This is slightly fuller bodied. Nose starts to emerge, just very backward."
