Morey is one of Chassagne-Montrachet's most recognizable family names in Burgundy, and Thomas carries the torch as the 10th generation of his family to make wine. The domaine (created in 2007) farms with a classical, low-intervention touch, and Thomas' Morgeot vines were inherited from his great-grandfather and center on two main plots, Les Brussonnes (planted 1986) and Les Fairendes (planted 1964 and 1974), within the large, historic Morgeot slope (east/southeast exposure; clay-limestone and marl) that naturally marries power and cut. 2023 was a ripe, healthy, well-balanced harvest, and the fruit was whole-cluster pressed and aged for approximately 12–14 months in French oak, with a modest percentage of new wood (~20%), full malolactic fermentation, minimal bâtonnage, and a light fining to preserve the terroir at the forefront. The profile is precise yet generous, featuring perfectly ripe orchard fruits (pear, apple, and white peach) and lemon oil, with a touch of exoticism, a floral lift, subtle grilled hazelnut from élevage, and saline, chalk-etched minerality. It's approachable now, but has serious potential for 10+ years. Thomas is one of the best in the family right now and is producing wines that are slightly better than those of his siblings. Quantities are genuinely limited, and this is a rare Morgeot with only a small amount typically imported. We currently have low pricing here, so don't miss this great deal!
Jasper Morris 92-94 pts! Blended from Fairendes, Brussonnes, Petit Clos, all just over 13%. The harvest started here which is as usual. Vibrant lemon and lime. Beautifully scented. White fruit behind, floral, with a fine intensity. Thomas Morey elegance and precision on top of the natural weight of Morgeot, indeed class of upper Morgeot.
