2023 Hubert Lignier Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vignois

$39.99
2023 Hubert Lignier Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vignois

One of the more intriguing new bottles from Hubert Lignier is the 2023 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vignois, a cuvée that we believe takes its name from the Brochon lieu-dit En Vignois, situated at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits between Gevrey-Chambertin and Fixin. This is a legitimate and well-regarded vineyard site that has historically produced Côte de Nuits-Villages for growers such as Louis Boillot and Jérôme Galeyrand, and Lignier has long worked with fruit from Brochon, including Vignois. What makes this particular release especially interesting is that it is bottled simply as Bourgogne Pinot Noir rather than Côte de Nuits-Villages; the precise reason for that declassification is not entirely clear, but the site's pedigree makes it far more compelling than the appellation on the label might suggest. The generous 2023 vintage suits the wine beautifully, with bright cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry joined by violets, subtle spice, and a gentle, earthy note, all carried by supple tannins and fresh acidity. This wine shows lovely Côte de Nuits character, with the purity, perfume, and refinement we expect from Lignier, but at a much more accessible level. For anyone looking for an under-the-radar Burgundy with genuine vineyard pedigree, this is a fascinating new release and a terrific way to experience one of Morey-Saint-Denis’ great domaines without paying village-level prices. Don't miss these last bottles!
