We have two excellent premier crus from Jean Paul Droin today at these great low prices. One of the rising stars who is becoming an elite winemaker in Chablis, Jean-Paul Droin, comes from a long lineage of Chablis ancestors dating back to 1614 and is the 14th generation of his family to pursue a winemaking career. Jean-Paul is the following link in the line of this old Chablis family, and once again, he has outdone themselves with another excellent vintage. Droin has some outstanding holdings and has been producing some of the hottest wines in Chablis over the past few years, at pricing that is more reasonable compared to producers like Louis Michel. JP Droin is arguably among the top five winemakers in Chablis, and the past few vintages from Droin have been particularly impressive. 2023 is a welcome vintage after the challenges of previous vintages, with excellent ripeness and retention of acidity. The wines have fantastic potential, and although pricing has increased slightly since we first started offering them, they remain some of the top buys for premier cru Chablis this vintage. We have some of the only bottles of these new releases available at these great prices.
Decanter (Charles Curtic MW) 93 points! "This delicious wine boasts initial exotic notes of pomelo and melon and opens up to suggest acacia blossom and cream. The texture is creamy and rich, but the wine is not lacking freshness; the extract carries the wine to a lovely lingering finish. The grapes are from 4.82ha spread over five lieux-dits – Vaillons, Séchet, Beugnons, Roncières and Epinottes – lightly crushed and fermented in tank and in cask (25%). The warm microclimates and thin soils here deliver some of the ripest fruit on the left bank."
