Philippe Colin attended the famed viticulture school in Beaune before joining his father at Domaine Michel Colin-Deleger in Chassagne-Montrachet in 1988. When his parents retired, the vineyards were split between Philippe and his two brothers, each establishing their own domaine with distinct winemaking philosophies. Philippe’s share totaled 11.5 hectares, which he has since developed into one of the village’s most respected estates.
The 2023 Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes is one of the domaine’s top bottlings, and this vintage is outstanding. Les Chenevottes lies at the northern edge of Chassagne-Montrachet, bordering Saint-Aubin and directly below the Premier Crus of Les Chaumées and Les Vergers. Here, heavier clay-limestone soils contribute a spicier, more powerful character to the wines, while vine age—averaging 45 years, with some up to 80—adds depth and complexity. Philippe farms sustainably and vinifies with a light touch, employing gentle pressing, fermentation in French oak (around 25–30% new barrels), and extended lees aging to build texture without compromising freshness. The 2023 vintage in Chassagne delivered ripe, concentrated fruit and vibrant acidity, producing site-expressive whites with both immediacy and structure. The 2023 Chenevottes is another outstanding buy for Chassagne this vintage, and we have excellent pricing on a few cases.
Jasper Morris MW (inside Burgundy) 91-94 points! "Mid lemon yellow. Again this firm style on the nose, typical of the 2023s from Philippe Colin. However, there is intensity and a layer of cream towards the back. This is more complete than the Chaumées, with a little fresh green fruit as well alongside and some youthful bitterness. In line to make a really good wine. Potential for keeping here."
