Vinous 92 pts!  The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champonnet 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet that leans more toward black rather than red fruit. Well-defined and focused, hints of rose petal emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied and quite fruit-driven, with blackcurrant pastilles, blueberry and violet. Compact and quite structured toward the finish, this needs another couple of years. Not bad, but it needs a little more Pinoté to show through—I think it will with time. Jasper Morris 92 pts! Hard dark purple with a thick wood element to the nose, though the fruit then breaks through quite quickly. There are still some dry tannins on the palate which are slightly masking the undoubted fruit. Perhaps they also take away from the precision of this wine at this stage in its life. There again, this could just be a little hidden at this adolescent moment. On balance, I am a believer.
