Marguet Champagne Yuman Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut (2019)

$54.99
John Gilman 90+ Benoît Marguet’s Yuman 19 is composed entirely from chardonnay this year, though it is not designated as a Blanc de Blancs on the label. I was happy to see on the back label that a bit of added SO2 was used this year as well, as I always feel this adds to the stability of the wine over the longer-term, which is how I prefer to drink even my non-vintage bottles. The wine is lovely note the nose, offering up notes of fresh apricot, pear, chalky soil tones, brioche, chalky soil tones, orange zest and a delicate foundation of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, zesty and nicely balanced, with good mineral undertow, elegant mousse, fine focus and a long, youthfully complex finish. This is just a touch angular on the backend today from its youthful structure and I would be inclined to give it at least a few months more bottle age before starting to pop bottles, just to let it come out from behind its acidity just a bit more. (Drink between 2024 - 2035)
