The newest release of the L'Or D'Eugene Rose, this is the most recent disgorgement of this crowd favorite. One of the top Grower addresses, the Champagnes from Mousse Fils, are fantastic and reasonably priced buys that are big on overachieving. Their Pinot Meunier dominant Champagnes are among the best in the grower Champagne world and are packed full of history with an impressive perpetual reserve of Pinot Meunier, which makes it into this client favorite Rose.
The Mousse Family has been growing grapes since 1750 in the Marne River Valley, and all of their vineyard locations remain on the same hillside with the same exposure but span the length of four villages, which is a unique location. Mousse Fils started making Champagne in 1923 and has perfected the art of Pinot Meunier Champagne which is the main grape used in all of their cuvees. Their work in the vineyards is extensive, with a wholly organic and biodynamic approach to vineyard management that see more animals than machines.
L'Or D'Eugene Rose is a new Cuvee that is replacing the Rose Effusion but is crafted virtually the same. Featuring juice from two perpetual reserves started in 2003, one for the white juice (Meunier with no skins for color) and another for the red, which comes from a single plot of Pinot Meunier.
The red wine is aged in older barrels for two years that are at least eight years old, giving the rose a unique character and extraordinary complexity. The final assemblage is 92% Pinot Meunier and 8% Pinot Noir and, after aging for 22 months, sees a dosage of 2.5 g/l (1.5 grams lower than the Effusion), putting it in the true extra brut territory and amplifying the transparency of fruit and terroir here. This is a Rose that shows a beautiful and complex array of red fruit, citrus, spice, herbs, and floral perfume. While it sees some extended aging, it still has a lovely freshness and energy. It is a sensational bottle and one of Champagne's top grower Rose's in this price range. This is the second release of this newly redesigned rose from Mousse Fils we have been able to offer, and with its slightly lower dosage, it's a better and worthy successor to the Effusion. We have low pricing on some of the only bottles available right now, and it is highly recommended for the grower Champagne lovers.
