2016 Déhu Père & Fils Champagne Cuvée La Rue des Noyers Extra Brut

$79.99
2016 Déhu Père & Fils Champagne Cuvée La Rue des Noyers Extra Brut
It's been years since we have offered anything from Benoit Dehu, but today, we have a back vintage of the crown jewel, La Rue des Noyers, which is showing exceptionally well. Few winemakers focusing on Pinot Meunier have burst onto the scene in Champagne over the last several years, and Benoit Dehu is one of them. There are now three incredibly difficult-to-source producers of Pinot Meunier, a grape that used to be an afterthought a decade ago. Prevost, Brochet, and Dehu.
Benoit Dehu is an 8th-generation winemaker from the Dehu family who returned to manage the family estate after working for Bollinger, where they make very delicious wines. From a 1.7 hectare parcel, he's carved out a small space for himself, and that's where the real magic takes place. Horse-plowed, biodynamically farmed vineyards, wines raised in larger barrels from fallen oak trees on the family's land, which are then turned into traditional barrels by a cooperage in Champagne, dosages are low, and expression is high. Cuvee la Rue de Noyers is a 100% Pinot Meunier bottling from this prized site of the same name that features limestone soils and is one of the best of its kind, easily on par or better than its peers and at a much lower price, too—no malo and aged sur latte for up to 60 months. The precision and energy here are outstanding, with the proper refinement needed to dial in Pinot Meunier and capture its best qualities. We have low pricing today on this rare back vintage, and it comes highly recommended. Read Galloni's review on our site.

Antonio Galloni 94 points! "The NV (2016) Cuvée La Rue des Noyers, 100% Meunier, is bright, effusive and full of energy. In 2016, the Rue des Noyers is not as overt as it can be, but instead makes its case with energy and verve more than sheer power. I find it especially distinctive and elegant. Exotic dried flowers, ginger, apricot and spice linger. There is so much to like, and also so much to look forward to as the 2016 develops in the cellar. No dosage. Disgorged: May, 2021."
