John Gilman 92+ Haag’s 2002 spätlese is a bit more closed than the glorious kabinett, but delivers the same uncompromising brand of excellence. The nose offers up a fine blend of lime, green apple, loamy soil tones, lovely Brauneberg herbal complications and lime blossom in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, racy and pretty closed, with a lovely core of fruit, an excellent girdle of acidity, and fine length and grip on the complex finish. I would give this fine bottle three or four years in the cellar to fully unzip, and then enjoy it over the ensuing two decades. It is an excellent young spätlese. (Drink between 2007 - 2025)
