The Old Vine Pinot Noir has just arrived, and now is the time to grab some before it's gone! Jim Maresh of Arterberry Maresh is one of our favorite producers in Oregon, and we have some of the new release Old Vine Pinot Noir today, which saw a slight price decrease this vintage, making it a great buy from this beloved address. Jim Arterberry founded Arterberry Maresh in the mid-2000s, reviving his father Fred Arterberry Jr.’s pioneering Oregon label, which focuses on old-vine Dundee Hills Pinot Noir from the family’s high-elevation Maresh Vineyard (Jory volcanic soils; largely own-rooted Pommard & Wädenswil planted in the 1970s). The 2023 “Old Vines” draws primarily from these historic blocks and is made with a classical Burgundian approach: spontaneous fermentations, mostly destemmed fruit with some whole clusters as vintage conditions allow, élevage ~12 months in neutral barriques, and bottling with minimal handling to keep site expression front and center. The vintage delivered generous ripeness with excellent natural acidity. The wine shows it with lifted red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry with rose petal, orange peel, subtle tea-spice, and a cool, stony snap; the palate is sleek and precise, threading juicy fruit through fine, chalk-tinged tannins and a long, energetic finish. This is only going to get better with more time in the bottle, and it's one of the top buys for Oregon Pinot Noir this vintage!
Vinous (Eric Guido) 95 points! "The 2023 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills Old Vines blossoms in the glass, where balsamic-tinged black cherries mingle with dried roses, nuances of gravel dust and a hint of clove. This wine is seamless and elegant, silken in texture, with a solid core of minerals to balance citrus-infused wild berry fruits that slowly saturate the palate. It tapers off chewy and extremely long, leaving the palate watering for more, all framed by regal tannins."
