The 2023 Tan Fruit cuvee is the best buy of the vintage for Oregon Chardonnay, and it's a killer buy for the category. A new project initiated by Jim Maresh of Arterberry Maresh in 2019, focusing on crafting exceptional Chardonnays that don't strictly adhere to the same rigid rules as those of Arterberry proper. This is the fourth vintage for Tan Fruit (there were no wines made here in 2020). The idea behind this estate is that Jim has access to a wide range of exciting fruit that he can purchase, and bottling it under the Tan Fruit label truly gives him the freedom to express his creative side while still retaining the classicism and sense of place that we expect from Jim. He is producing some of the finest Chardonnays in all of Oregon, and the Cuvee Tan Fruit comes from 8 different vineyards in the Willamette Valley, including Yamhill-Carlton, Chehalem Mountains, Lower Long Tom, and Dundee Hills. It's a beautiful example of an Oregon Chardonnay made the way we like it and completely overdelivers at this price.
