$99.99
2022 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
One of the top Addresses in Chateauneuf du Pape we offer yearly, Clos des Papes, is one of the names that put the region on the map. We were able to get a bit more of the 2022 at our same great price, which is another great vintage for this remarkable address. To this day, Clos de Papes continues to be one of the best buys for CDP, upholding a very high level of quality that represents the region and the Clos des Papes name. Clos des Papes was certified organic in 2011, and it is their diligent vineyard management, coupled with their classical winemaking, that keeps them at the forefront in the region, with 2022 being one of the greatest examples from Clos des Papes. The 2022 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is fantastic, characterized by optimal climatic conditions guided under the expert viticulture of winemaker Paul-Vincent Avril. A mild winter and ideal spring flowering set the stage for healthy vines. The summer brought a perfect balance of warmth and timely rainfall, resulting in a protracted growing season. The wines showcase concentrated fruit flavors, characteristic garrigue notes, and refined spiciness. Harvesting under ideal conditions yielded wines with supple yet structured tannins, promising immediate appeal and the potential for graceful aging. The 2022 is one of the best ever from Clos des Papes and a candidate for wine of the vintage in CDP. We have friendly pricing on a limited amount and this is going to be one of the top buys of the vintage for Southern Rhone.

Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski) 97-99 points! "The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape is a richly concentrated effort, dark-fruited and loaded with black cherries and blackberries, yet it's not without nuance, as it includes hints of asphalt, truffle and dried spices. Full-bodied (15.4% alcohol), deep and velvety, with a long, softly dusty finish, it looks to be a real beauty, capable of aging up to two decades."

Decanter 96 points! "A touch less Mourvèdre this year, but not enough to change the profile of the wine, which is fairly classic albeit pretty bombastic in 2022. Raspberry and black cherry, ripe and exuberant. Full but not massive, the alcohol is present, slightly warming the finish. Tannins are a little grainy, so I would give this time to settle before broaching. Succulent and juicy, with a touch of liquorice. Vincent Avril believes the wine could close down quite early on. So drink young, or (even better) wait until 2030. All destemmed, aged in old foudres. (Drink between 2030-2042)"
