$229.99
2014 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod / Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers
We have a lovely back-vintage of Grunchers from Chambolle-Musigny great, Barthod. Barthod makes some of the most exciting wines in Chambolle, and Ghislaine likes to bottle all of her holdings separately to show off their individuality. Grunchers is one of the top crus from this address and on par with the Cras and Fuees this vintage. Located in the northwestern section of Chambolle, Grunchers, just east across the road from Fuees and Cras and a mere stone's throw from the great vineyard of Bonnes Mares. The vineyards in this part of Chambolle have a higher percentage of Clay in the soil, giving them more power and muscularity than the wines that come from the southern end.
2014 is an exceptional example that can be approached now and will continue to age for another decade. It is always a treat to grab a ready-to-drink bottle from Barthod, and we have low pricing today on this fantastic effort.

John Gilman 93 points! "The 2014 Barthod Gruenchers was really singing at the time of my visit, soaring from the glass in a red fruity blaze of strawberries, cherries, a touch of blood orange, chalky soil tones, roses and mustard seed. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and utterly suave, with excellent mid-palate depth, bright acids, very fine-grained tannins and excellent length and grip on the transparent and sappy finish. Gruenchers is such a beautiful terroir and the 2014 version chez Barthod is really a stunning wine in the making."

Wine Advocate (Neil Martin) 92-94 points! "From the parcel purchased in 2009, the 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Gruenchers has a refined and sophisticated, mineral-driven nose that fans out beautifully with aeration. The palate is elegant and refined with filigree tannin, a killer line of acidity, immense precision and length. This could be one of the domaine's outstanding wines of the vintage -- magnifique!"
