2019 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos

$69.99
2019 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
Part of the famed Moreau family in Chablis, Louis Moreau is among a great lineage of Chablis winemakers. The wines of Louis Moreau are classic Chablis wines that are built on mineral definition rather than trying for opulent fruit. It is one of the more traditional styles that has remained a constant in Chablis, and while others might look to experiment, Louis Moreau sticks to his guns. 2019 is showing very well after some time in the bottle and is in the perfect spot to start enjoying now. Les Clos can be an elusive wine that can offer one of the most extraordinary grand cru experiences of Chablis, and right now, this is firing on all cylinders. The vines for the Moreau Les Clos have some significant age on them and were planted in 1958 and 1968. Always hand-harvested and sorted, this is vinified in the tank with indigenous years and sees no oak, aging on the fine lees for 18 months before bottling. It's a pure and transparent style that Moreau has used to great success since the 2013 vintage. This is an excellent example of Les Clos and certainly shows its grand cru weight in this vintage, as Neil Martin notes below. We have low pricing on these ex-cellar bottles today, and it is a fantastic buy for Grand Cru Chablis.

Vinous (Neil Martin) 93 points! "The 2019 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is well-defined and focused, with finely integrated oak on the nose and ample mineralité coming through. The palate is taut and fresh, though it delivers the weight and depth one expects from this vineyard. Almost Corton-Charlemagne-like on the waxy-textured finish. This has a lot of potential. (Drink between 2023-2040)"
