2022 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne

2022 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne comes from a tiny 1.5 ha walled site on Puligny's mid-slope, contiguous with Folatières and Champ Canet. Pernot, one of the great producers of Puligny, farms roughly 0.7 ha here, a parcel replanted in 1957 with a few legacy Aligoté vines that are apparently still mixed in. The domaine's approach is classical with hand-harvesting, barrel-fermentation, moderate new oak for premier crus, minimal bâtonnage, light filtration, and bottling on the earlier side. The 2022 vintage delivered generous, finely balanced wines and is a lovely vintage for white Burgundy, pairing beautifully with Clos de la Garenne's thin limestone soils and cool exposition, which keep the style precise and mineral. We have low pricing on this one today, and it's a beautiful late release from Pernot!

Jasper Morris 93 points! "Pale colour with a light green tint. This has flesh and grip while the fruit style is not without elegance. The mineral acidity plays very nicely at the back. This wine has considerable potential."

Burghound 92 points! "Cooler aromas of Granny Smith apples, essence of pear, acacia and crushed star anise are trimmed in all but imperceptible wood. Once again the medium weight flavors possess a highly attractive texture while exuding a subtle minerality that adds a sense of refinement and lift to the balanced, clean, nicely dry and slightly more persistent finish. This is lovely and worth considering."
